Volunteer Program

The Southern Center for Human Rights welcomes highly motivated individuals who are interested in helping us with their time and talent.

Due to the nature of our work, there is often a high level of responsibility placed on our volunteers. We ask potential volunteers to commit to spending at least two hours of service a week for eight weeks (16 hour minimum). Individuals accepted into our volunteer program will also be asked to sign a pledge of confidentiality.

Volunteer positions are available in the following areas:

  • Impact (Civil) Litigation
  • Capital Litigation
  • Fundraising
  • Administrative Support

There are a range of activities for our volunteers, each requiring varying levels of training:

  • responding to requests for assistance with referral information
  • assisting attorneys with the assembly of case notebooks
  • updating resource lists
  • mailing resource handbook
  • data entry
  • filing
  • assisting with large mailings

If you are a law student interested in SCHR's internship program, please see the Human Rights Internship section of our website.

To apply to be a volunteer, please submit a volunteer application.
