Communications Director

Kathryn Hamoudah

Kathryn Hamoudah is the Communications Director for the Southern Center for Human Rights (SCHR). She originally joined SCHR in January 2010 but left in 2017 to attend law school. During her time at SCHR, she supported the SCHR through media, legislative and community advocacy efforts. Kathryn represented SCHR on a broad range of criminal justice issues at the Georgia General Assembly. She led statewide legislative and media campaigns that secured the Governor’s 2014 veto of legislation designed to expand for-profit probation and reduce transparency. Additionally, she successfully advocated for the passage of criminal justice reform legislation that extends parole eligibility to people incarcerated for drug offenses who are serving disproportionately long sentences.

From 2010 to 2016, Kathryn served as the Chairperson for Georgians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty, a statewide anti-death penalty coalition. Her work with the coalition included fundraising, organizing statewide meetings, public education events, and training for members. Additionally, she was a central member of the organizing team for Troy Davis, leading organizing efforts to collect signatures demanding a new trial.

Kathryn is an alumna of the Rockwood Death Penalty Abolition Fellowship program (2012). She graduated from Georgia State University College of Law in 2020.
