Kendell Long

Kendell joined SCHR’s Capital Litigation Unit as a LDF Marshall-Motley Fellow in September of 2024. During law school, they interned at Legal Aid Society’s Bronx Criminal Defense Practice and Bronx Juvenile Rights Practice; Mississippi Center for Justice’s Impact Litigation Initiative, working on facial-challenges to new criminal laws; and Southern Center for Human Rights, working on prison conditions and fines and fees investigations. Prior to law, school they worked on prison conditions, compassionate release, and parole advocacy for Washington, D.C. residents during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Kendell also assisted in fair housing advocacy in Washington D.C. and successfully advocated for the exoneration of an individual who was incarcerated for nearly 30 years for a crime he did not commit.

Kendell is a native of Dallas, TX and enjoys house and jazz music, hiking, and baking. Kendell holds a J.D. from New York University (2024) and a B.A. in African American Studies and Government from Georgetown University (2019). Kendell returns to SCHR as an inaugural NAACP Legal Defense Fund Marshall-Motley Fellow, a scholarship and fellowship program that supports lawyers who are dedicated to racial justice work in the South. Kendell is barred in Georgia.
