Shameka Gartrell

Shameka Gartrell joined SCHR’s Development Team as the Development and Special Events Associate in August 2024. In this role, she supports the organization’s fundraising initiatives, assists with managing donor relationships, and coordinates special events. Shameka brings experience in development, event planning, and administrative support, having previously worked in both higher education and nonprofit sectors.

A proud graduate of Florida A&M University with a degree in African-American Studies, Shameka has long been committed to social justice and equity work. In addition to her professional work, she is passionate about preserving Black historical sites, specifically cemeteries, believing deeply in honoring the legacy of Black communities and their histories, which are too often forgotten or neglected.
