Encourage Your Legislators to Attend Southern Center for Human Rights’ Legislative Institute!

We know that Georgians care about making our state’s criminal legal systems fairer, smarter, more just, and more humane — but we need to ensure that Georgia’s elected officials do, too.

Can you contact the below lawmakers and urge them to attend our virtual Legislative Institute? They will learn more about the state’s criminal legal systems, the efforts of the Southern Center for Human Rights, and our priorities for the upcoming legislative session: Ending government-sanctioned violence; responding to COVID-19 in prisons, jails, and detention centers; protecting the right to counsel; eradicating inhumane prison and jail conditions; eliminating wealth-based detention, and ending extreme sentences and abolishing the death penalty.

Sample Script: Georgia has been on the forefront of smart criminal legal reform for years — but we need to sustain that progress now more than ever. I am urging you to attend SCHR’s Legislative Institute, so that you can be ready to go on Day 1 of the 2021 session. Your attendance is especially important this year, as our state’s prisons and jails have been ravaged by COVID-19, resulting in a serious constitutional crisis. Please RSVP for the December 10th event by contacting Ira Berkley at [email protected].
